  • Pre-Season: June & July (Monday practices only)

During pre-season, we will focus on building skating skills, confidence, and fundamentals to prepare skaters for tryouts. Practices will be skating-focused with an emphasis on individual skill development, with more derby-specific training and contact work starting in September.

Levels of Play

We will offer three levels of play to meet skaters at their development stage and competitive goals:

  • Travel Team (A Team)

Generally for ages 12 and up.

Focused on competitive gameplay traveling around the west coast.

Goal of qualifying for JRDA Championships in the OPEN division.

If enough interest, we may try to enter in both the Open (coed) and Female divisions.

  • Developmental Team (B Team)

For skaters 10+ working toward full contact and advanced gameplay.

Focused on gaining experience through scrimmages and regional competition.

Will play regionally in Southern California and may travel as far as Arizona.

  • Littles Junior Derby (Ages 6–10)

Depending on participation, we may form in-house teams, explore regional travel, and schedule fun scrimmages to introduce younger skaters to the sport.

additional information

  • Required Gear

All skaters must wear the following protective equipment at every practice and game:

    Helmet

    Knee pads

    Elbow pads

    Wrist guards

    Mouthguard

    Quad roller skates

*Loaner helmets, wrist guards, and skates are available for free for first time participants. Full gear is required upon registration into the league. We highly recommend you use our rentals rather than purchasing any skates under $100. Our skates roll better than most offered in that price range.

Gear can be purchased at Fritzy’s Roller Skate Shop for 13% off the entire store. Fritzy's offers free shipping on orders over $50 and in-store pickup options.

  • Eligibility & Expectations

Open to skaters ages 6–16 (up to age 17 depending on birthday).

Must be able to skate forward the length of the rink and stop independently.

Attendance at practices is expected to ensure safety and progression.

  • Parent Responsibilities & Drop-Off Policy

Parents are welcome to drop off their child for practice as long as they:

Pick up their child inside the building at the end of practice, or arrange for a designated coach/parent to escort their child out.

At this time, drop-offs are not allowed for practices or events that begin after 5:00pm.

Skaters can earn a Good Conduct Token (awarded for positive behavior and responsibility) to redeem for permission to attend a public skating session without a chaperone.

  • Coaching & Volunteering

Our head coaches are Christina and Brett Stang. We are actively seeking additional coaches, officials, and administrative volunteers to support the program. More details on how to get involved will be shared soon—please let us know if you’re interested info@skateworld.com.

  • Communication

League updates will be sent via email and through our team app. Please ensure your contact info is up to date on your registration form.
