FAQs
Registration & Payment
How do I sign up for classes? Can I sign up for an individual class?
To keep consistency and class structure we do require all skaters to sign up for our recurring monthly Skate Academy Pass.
Can I pay at the door when I arrive?
All 30 Day Skate Academy Passes must be purchased online at least 30 minutes prior to the class start time.
What if I can’t make it to classes anymore and I’ve already paid for my monthly Skate Academy Pass?
Your next payment date if you’d like to cancel your Pass, and we’ll make sure you aren’t charged for the following month. You’re still welcome to attend classes through the end of your current billing cycle. We don’t offer refunds or credits for missed classes, so it’s a good idea to double-check your schedule before signing up.
You can send us a message to cancel anytime at https://www.skateworld.com/skate-academy-cancellation
How do I sign up if I have multiple children?
You will need to sign each child up for their own Skate Academy Pass.
Can I try a class before signing up for a full month?
We do not currently offer a trial class. Our monthly program is designed to help skaters confidently roll in just 4 weeks!
Class Levels & Progression
I’ve never skated before. Is that okay?
Absolutely! Our instructors are great at starting from square one and will help you feel comfortable and confident on wheels.
I’m not sure what level of skater I am.
No worries at all! Our instructors will place you in the right group based on your skill level. Just be sure you purchase your Skate Academy Pass for your correct age group!
Are make up classes allowed?
We don’t offer make-up classes, but the great news is your pass includes access to two class days each week! If you miss your usual day, you’re always welcome to join the other that week or even enjoy both in the future.
What will I be learning at each level?
Each level builds on the last with fun, skill-based progressions. Check out our Level Chart for all the details!
Can I switch levels if I improve quickly?
Yes! Our instructors monitor progress and can help you move up when you’re ready.
What happens when I graduate from Skate Academy?
Congrats! Once you check off every item in Level 3 you are welcome to participate in any of our sports classes. We recommend completing your entire card, through Level 4, to get the most out of your Skate Academy experience.
Beyond the Skateworld sports options, we suggest session skating, outdoors skating, as well park and trail skating - San Diego has a great outdoor skate scene.
Do you offer classes for advanced or adult skaters?
Once you’ve completed our skate classes or if you are already a great skater we have a variety of sports available. Power skating on Tuesday evenings is a great way to continue to get an advanced skate workout. You can also reach out to one of the roller derby leagues in the area; San Diego Roller Derby who practices Monday nights at skateworld, SoCal another flat track league, and finally, Slam Diego, one of the few bank track leagues in the country!
Class Participation & Parents
Can I be in the same class as my friend?
Yes, as long as you're in the same age group and close to the same level of skating! We’ll do our best to keep friends together when it’s a good skill match.
What time should I arrive for class?
Check-in starts 15 minutes before your class starts so you have plenty of time to check in and get your skates on.
What if I’m late?
Classes start right on time! If you’re more than 15 minutes late, you won’t be able to check in, so try to arrive early and stress-free.
Can I use a skate mate (skate helper) during class?
Our Roller Roo classes for ages 3–5 may use skate sates if the instructors feel they’ll be helpful. For ages 6 and up, skate mates aren’t used during class, however you're always welcome to rent one during our public sessions while your still getting the hang of things.
Can parents watch the class?
Absolutely! We do require that you stay up in the upper lobby area while classes are in session, there are several tables and room to watch your child roll!
Can I drop my child off?
This is not a drop-off class. For safety and supervision, parents or guardians must stay within the venue at all times during the class. We want to make sure everyone has a fun and secure experience
Can I walk on the floor with my children?
If your little one is in the Roller Roo group for ages 3 to 5, we actually require that you join them on the floor to help during level 1. After that, they are usually confident enough to take the floor by themselves. For kids ages 6 to 12 we are usually able to make them feel confident enough on the carpet and then move on to the floor then our awesome instructors will be right there skating with them, so parents can relax and watch from the sidelines. You will not be allowed on the skating floor during their class.
What if I want to work on a specific skill?
Our group classes follow a set progression designed to help everyone build skills step-by-step. If you’d like to focus on a specific skill, a private lesson with an instructor would be a great option for you. Chat with your instructor after class to set something up.
Do your instructors offer private lessons?
They sure do! Instructors set their own schedules and pricing, so feel free to talk to them after class if you're interested. Prices start at $1 per minute and we usually recommend a 30 minute lesson to start. Lessons are held during public skate sessions and you will need to pay for admission to skate as well as pay your instructor directly for the lesson.
Skates & Equipment
Do I have to have my own skates?
No, you’re welcome to use our rental skates free of charge. Roller skates are available in sizes from Toddler 6 up to Men’s 16. Inline skates range from Junior 13 to Men’s 13, and they tend to run slightly large.
Can I bring my own skates?
Yes! We’ll just do a quick safety check to make sure they’re in good shape before you head out on the floor.
What should I bring to class?
Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move easily and bring water. Bring your skates and safety gear if you have them. We also offer safety gear rentals at the rink.
Special Needs & Accommodations
What should I do if my child has special needs or requires accommodations?
If your child has special needs or requires accommodations, please let us know in advance. We’re committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment and will work with you to ensure your child has the best possible experience. Feel free to reach out so we can discuss any specific needs and how we can assist.
